I am reading The Gift now, I bought it for myself as a reward for going to the gyno (which was a betrayal of a promise I made to myself when I was 9 and had just read the book PERIOD., wherein I swore I’d never step foot into one of those places until I had a baby). So I went and afterward I got this book and a 400 calorie cookie from Starbucks. I wonder which will have a more lasting effect on me.
Anyway, if you ever want to feel like a real presumptive asshole, buy The Gift. It is AWESOME (so far)— let the fact that I forgot where I was [on the A train], unthinkingly went uptown, express, straight to fucking Harlem when I live in BROOKLYN, people, serve as a testament to its awesomeness. If you overlook the fact that toting around this book is basically an assertion that you have some sort of gift, which isn’t as scary when I say it in the 2nd person, to you guys, because you all undoubtedly have gifts on gifts (motherfucker), but near impossible to say in the 1st.
Actually my cashier asked me if i wanted a GIFT receipt. And no, it wasn’t even a pun! And I’ll tell ya, I was tempted to say yes, just to deflect any judgment she may have at that moment been bestowing upon me.
PART TWO OF THIS POST:
Isnt this thing cool? It’s even Creative Commons-ed. It is what the creator calls a “mind map,” and he has made many. Click through for the full size, you know you wanna. A man named Austin Kleon made it, appurrently. He lives in Austin so I can say his blog is rather adorable, if not only for flagrant use of Futura (the truest way into my heart). He is “a writer who draws”. Wow seriously who is this guy?
Groovy doovy.
Has anyone else read The Gift ?
