Guided by Voices — Hold on Hope

I know this GBV song is not COOL* because it was on SCRUBS but I always was very impressed by the opening lines,

Every street is dark
And folding aposteriously

because I didn’t even know what this word “aposteriously” MEANT, and, Jesus, Robert Pollard MUST be pretty smart because he is using a word that I don’t even KNOW. I mean, damn it sounds like a pretty awesome word I really have to remember to look that one up / use it at an opportune moment, like a BLOG POST or something…

And then I remembered to look it up and turns out I don’t have to turn in my English degree after all because it is NOT a word, the lyric just goes, Every street is dark and folding OUT MYSTERIOUSLY.

And I just have to tell you that that is disappointing as hell.

Not because I was wrong- it is fun to be wrong in small, unimportant ways! It is a nice warm-up for being wrong in bigger ones. But i really wanted aposteriously to be a word.

* Ahem. Not that I listen to bands like this because it makes boys like me or anything. Not that I read an entire book about this sort of early 90s indie rock COOL BOY MUSIC because I did a brief stint as this guy’s assistant and now know way more about Robert Pollard than I ever cared to know in case you were wondering!!!

PPS: JONI MITCHELL FOREVER!!
