This one’s for the kids—and the ‘lulz’.
This album is so nostalgic for me. This song is so sophomore year of high school, my friends are all first learning how to drive, giving cute boys rides home in my friends Firebird, learning all the words to all the songs, and then standing in the back of other boys’ trucks and rapping, not missing a beat, before we went to our Bible Study, in our American Eagle t-shirts and WWJD bracelets, hardly knowing what any of what we were saying meant.
At my 16th birthday we got a moonwalk and a Dora the Explorer cake (ohmygod that’s so weird, isn’t it?) and around the end of the night I stood in the middle of my friend’s patio and gave a performance of one of that interlude, “Ed-u-cation” I believe it’s called. I still remember it. Aw they say a, a black man is a pimp, well lemme tell ya the biggest pimp, on planet mothafuckin earth, is her MAMA.
I guess it was just an issue close to my heart is all.
I don’t listen to any of these hooligan music anymore (hah!) but oh man, do I remember what a thrill it was to say, “Step up in this motherfucker just a-swingin my hair.”
